Language

Children's minds are primed for language learning from ages 0 to 6. This is called a sensitive period where a child can learn wonderfully and almost effortlessly. Our classroom is prepared with kid's mind's and abilities in mind. Our language class is held daily in both group class lessons (10 students at a time), and individual time.

Students will select materials at their own level to strengthen fine motor control (needed for writing), pencil grip, handwriting, penmanship, vocabulary, reading comprehension, composition, grammar, phonetics, sentence structure, etc. Each child will blossom at his or her own pace.  By age 6, many children will be skilful readers and writers. We support the child to become an articulate person, able to communicate feelings in well-formed sentences and in writing.

The language class is given first in the program "House of the Children" (Casa dei Bambini) around 8:30 am to 9:30 am, right after the opening exercises. children are also guided individually to language activities through the uninterrupted Montessori time period. Language is also interwoven in the Unit Studies program. Students develop writing, reading, composition and grammar skills through the following Montessori language works:

Oral Language
Written Language
Handwriting
Reading
Total Reading
Reading Analysis
Language Summary
Reading and writing in relation to the Cultural Work
